1st Weekend

It was just before noon on Friday, June 24th that we drove through New York City traffic, across the George Washington Bridge, took the exit to Fort Lee, NJ, and pulled into the Wendy's drive-thru.  Gus was happy to nap through this quick stop before we reached home a little after 12:30.
Now that he was home, Gus was finally able to use some of the great toys that his parents received as gifts.  His favorite by far will come as no surprise to his Aunt Jenny, who wants an adult size version, is the mamaRoo.
After a nap and a little play time on Grandma,
Gus welcomed our first visitors at home, Paul and Maisy Byerly.
The rest of Friday was spent responding to the needs of Gus.  We did our best to eke out a few hours of sleep that night as we tried to settle on some routines.  Saturday and Sunday were spent in similar fashion, though Gus did get a sponge bath on Saturday
and played on his colorful floor mat
and went for a walk on Sunday.
It wasn't until Sunday night that Gus slept for 3 hour stretches.  This occurred thanks to helpful advice from the Matyjasiks over Skype, plus a video from them showing off an excellent swaddling technique, guiding us to settle on a routine for bedtime. The plan is to feed Gus an extra ten minutes before bed while playing white noise, then swaddle him only at night.  Three nights in and Gus is making it through the night in 3 to 4 hour chunks.
