Tara took the opportunity to attend a handful of breast feeding classes where Gus displayed a latent talent for latching on correctly, but would then promptly fall asleep. At one point the lactation specialist came to the room to help and tip after tip failed to stir him. We also attended a general Care for Babies class that included an obligatory and overly dramatic don't-shake-the-baby video.
Tara felt pretty good throughout Wednesday, even welcoming a couple of visitors from The Buckley School, Dodie McCartney and Elizabeth Bacon, a brief 13 hours after giving birth. By Thursday though the drugs had worn off and she felt like she had been hit by a truck.
But with spirits high, Austen Cruz and Gloriane Ortega came in for a visit in the afternoon. While Gloria, Tara and I constantly kept snapping pictures of Gus in our arms, we didn't get our act together with our guests until Gloriane.
In addition to all of the pictures that we lowly amateurs snapped, a professional photographer came in for a newborn photoshoot. The results can be found at http://www.bellababyphotography.com/ the password is 0622augustgregorywieners and the pictures should remain up until mid-July.
In an attempt to supplement/replace the hospital food, bagels, pizza, and an apricot crumble found its way into the room, which Tara graciously devoured. After almost 72 hours total spent in the hospital, Tara was ready to come home with Gus.
We gathered all of our bags and planted Gus into his car seat at 11:30 for the ride home to Englewood, NJ.
